Mercury Retrograde Ends! (But Don't Celebrate Yet)
August has been quite a roller coaster, thanks to Mercury, planet of communication, technology and travel, being retrograde (moving backward) from August 2 through 26. For most of the time, Mercury was in theatrical Leo, which tinged the retrograde with a double dose of drama. We know you felt it! Leo rules the ego, and people may have become quite self-focused during this time, even at the expense of common sense. Relationships and parties may have fallen flat, since the usual Leo celebratory vibes were dampened by a retrograde.Jupiter Retrograde in Taurus (8/30-12/25)
Tap the brakes between now and Christmas Day. Expansive Jupiter, the planet of luck, abundance and enthusiastic action, slows down into retrograde (backward) motion from August 30 through December 25. Translation: Santa Claus IS coming to town … but he's not on the express train. One of the reindeer might be out of commission, too. So, we might need to dial down our appetites and expectations a little. Continue to shoot for the moon, but if you end up with a pocketful of stars, it's all good, too.
Underneath the Stars: Weekly Celebrity Astro-Report
Mercury is out of retrograde, and apparently, so are the celebrities. From the VMAs (congrats to Scorpio Katy Perry and biggup to Aries Lady Gaga for channeling an alter ego) to “Dancing With the Stars” pairing (go, Virgo Ricki Lake and gutsy Pisces Chaz Bono!), it was a busy week again. Here’s what caught our attention.
Beyoncé (Virgo) and Jay-Z (Sagittarius): Preggers!
Labor Day Astrology
So it's Labor Day. Beaches and barbecues get their last hurrah. The coming weekend is neatly divided between a pensive Scorpio Moon (Friday and half of Saturday) and a wild Sagittarius Moon (Saturday afternoon into Monday evening). The Scorpio Moon makes us more reflective and private. Use Friday and Saturday to appreciate your loved ones, to spend some low-key bonding time, and to self-reflect. Scorpio is spiritual. Take time after a busy summer to reconnect with your soul.
Underneath the Stars: Weekly Celebrity Astro-Report
Ryan Gosling (Scorpio) Dating Eva Mendes (Pisces)
Fall romance report: Two highly compatible (and highly attractive) Water signs have found each other. Ah, romance. Our prediction for this couple? There could definitely be PDA aplenty (they already smooched their way through Disney World), as Scorpio and Pisces are two highly sensual signs. Although they’re normally private, when together, they tend to let their guards down. While this one could potentially go the distance, we’re sure of one thing: more PDA is on the way.
Neptune in Aquarius: High-Tech, High-Touch
In 1998, healing Neptune began a long trek through Aquarius, the sign of social change, technology and revolution. It was an interesting blend of Neptune's touchy-feely energy and robotic Aquarius' veil of emotional detachment that lasted until April 2011, when Neptune started a 14-year visit to Pisces. From August 4 through February 3, Neptune will pay one final visit to Aquarius in our lifetimes.Mercury Retrograde in Leo: Drama, The Sequel
Communication planet Mercury has been retrograde (moving backward) in Virgo since August 2, making the last week pretty wacky for travel, emails and misunderstandings. Virgo rules the hearth — and also the digestive system — so you may have noticed foods not tasting or going down as well as usual.
Underneath the Stars: London Uprisings, Stock Woes
Much as we like to dish on celebs, there’s been a lot more happening in the headlines. So we’d be remiss not to mention life beyond the red carpet this week, especially as Mercury retrograde heats up political and economic tension.
Aquarius Full Moon: Revolution!
Saturday brings us a full moon in Aquarius, the sign of groups, teamwork and society. Set your sights on an idealistic vision and stand up for what you believe. If there was ever a time to champion a cause or team up with new collaborators, this is it. This is a great weekend to get out and network or to attend a party that’s also for a worthwhile or charitable cause. Consider your carbon footprint too — the Aquarius full moon is the antithesis of the “all about me” attitude that our consumer-driven society tends to encourage.
