In a freak accident, “Gossip Girl” alum, model and blogger Lauren Scruggs walked into the moving propeller of a plane last weekend, causing severe damage to the left side of her body. She lost her left hand, sustained head injuries and may even lose her left eye. So tragic! Although we couldn’t find her astrological sign, we’re looking at Mercury, ruler of travel and the hands, which is currently retrograde (moving backward) in Sagittarius, ruler of airplanes and also a sign prone to absent-mindedness. Mercury retrograde can cause complications with travel, and with Uranus retrograde in Aries (ruler of the head), this doubled the chances for mishaps. This is just one of those stories that makes you want to turn back time and yell “Stop!” One would also assume that a propeller would be completely shut off before passengers disembarked, but during Mercury retrograde, this is the kind of thing that can happen. She was on the red carpet and telling the world that “scars are beautiful” right before she takes a mere two weeks off for the procedure. Leos are usually very open about their personal lives, so we imagine she’ll become a public advocate in the fight against breast cancer this year.

James is in the hot seat for referring to ex-wife Sandra Bullock as “some Hollywood actress,” and essentially blaming their high-profile lifestyle for his own disgusting choices, including cheating on her with 19 women. Sorry, dude, but until you point the finger back at yourself for your choices, you’re still on our **** list! In more “Mercury retrograde in travel-sign Sagittarius” news: Hotheaded Aries Alec Baldwin was kicked off an American Airlines flight for refusing to turn off his cell phone. We’re also chalking this one up to rebellious Uranus (which, along with Mercury, rules electronics). Uranus is in its final retrograde days in Aries, giving this sign a bit of an ego issue and the sense of being above the law. Love ya on “30 Rock,” Alec, but you’ve been on enough flights to know that your cell-phone use could interfere with signals and safety. Maybe it’s time to switch from “Angry Birds” to Solitaire!

Proactive Mars is visiting Virgo from November 2011 through July 2012, motivating this sign to whip their lives into shape.
