Oscars 2011: Pisces Glamour Meets Aries Edge
Oscar night is this Sunday, and the planets are stirring up an interesting energetic blend. Four planets will be in glamorous, sentimental Pisces, guaranteeing some teary-eyed acceptance speeches and enchanting outfits. By contrast, expansive Jupiter is in fiery Aries, the trailblazing trendsetter, from January 22 through June 4. Aries is the sign of “firsts” and devil-may-care risks. It’s also ruled by warrior planet Mars, which carries a lot of masculine energy. Short hemlines, edgy speeches and other eyebrow-raising antics will bring laughs to a three-Kleenex evening. Here’s how we predict this blend of old-meets-new could reveal itself at the Academy Awards.
Red Carpet
Punctuating a sea of shimmering gowns in Piscean pastel? A few ladies in red, the signature Aries color. Why? Jupiter, planet of luck and excess, is in Aries. It shows where we take bold, head-turning risks but don’t always hit the mark. Translation: The Best and Worst Dressed lists will be populated with bright dresses in surprising hues like scarlet, hot pink, even orange. Aries rules the face and hair, so we may see bold makeup and red lips, or hairstyles that will be talked about for weeks to come. Lady Gaga is an Aries, and her Grammy night arrival in an egg won’t be forgotten. Who will match Gaga at the Academy Awards?
Acceptance Speeches
With four planets in watery, emotional Pisces, expect heartfelt tributes and dedications that get us all misty-eyed. Jupiter in brash Aries could mix up the waterworks with fireworks — award winners may use their acceptance speeches to make a political statement or send a bold message of change.
The Hosts
One word: sexy! Aries James Franco and Scorpio Anne Hathaway are born under signs influenced by Mars, planet of passion and heat. Expect some seriously blush-worthy chemistry between these two. Get a room!
Best Picture
It’s a toss-up between the Pisces and Aries themes. Pisces rules dance and mental illness, giving a boost to “Black Swan.” Aries rules themes of fighting and the “hero’s journey,” favoring “The Fighter,” “True Grit,” “127 Hours” and “The King’s Speech.”
Best Actress
Geminis swept the Golden Globes while lucky Jupiter was in Pisces, their 10th house of fame. Can they still ride by on the fumes of this victorious transit? There certainly are enough Gemini contenders: Natalie Portman, Nicole Kidman, Annette Bening. Our bets are on Natalie.
Best Actor
Lucky Jupiter’s presence in Aries favors James Franco. And wouldn’t that be memorable, to see the host also take home a statue!
Sagittarius Jeff Bridges has luck in his corner, with Jupiter in his fifth house of fame and theater. Pisces Javier Bardem has a shot, with four planets in his sign — and if he doesn’t win, he may do something else memorable. Although Virgo Colin Firth’s name is on many people’s lips, the stars aren’t necessarily aligned for a big win until next year. But hey, you never know ...
Best Supporting Actress
We’d love to see Virgo Melissa Leo win. We met her at the 2006 Sundance Awards and did a reading for her — she was nice, down-to-earth and into astrology! However, the stars are favoring Leo Amy Adams and Gemini Helena Bonham Carter.
Best Supporting Actor
In the planetary lead is Cancer Geoffrey Rush. With lucky Jupiter in his 10th house of fame, he’s a cosmic shoo-in.
