Moon Signs: Peer Into Your Soul
When someone asks what your “sign” is, they’re actually talking about your Sun sign, or where in the zodiac the Sun was at the time you were born. While the Sun can describe your basic personality, there’s so much more to you than that. At your birth, ALL the planets were in specific signs, the sum total of which makes up your birth (or natal) chart. One of the most important features of your chart is your Moon sign. The Moon rules your soul, your deepest desires, what you respond to intuitively. It can indicate who you love, what you find beautiful, where you feel at home. The Moon is also associated with mothers, women and the “divine feminine” or goddess. When we look at charts for couples, we look at Moon sign compatibility even more than Sun signs. We often find that when you meet other people who share your Moon sign, they feel like soul mates, or at least kindred spirits.
While the Sun changes signs every 30 days, the Moon moves every two to three days. This makes it even more of a variable in the chart, and can explain why your basic Sun sign horoscope may only partially describe you. For example, we are fiery, outgoing Sagittarians, but our Moon sign is Scorpio, which couldn’t be more different. So while we may be cheerful, karaoke-loving, joke-cracking Sags on the outside, we’ve always had a love of all things Scorpio: intense research, puzzles and strategy games, mysteries and learning what makes people tick. However, we express our Moon sign’s interests in things like astrology through Sagittarius-ruled vehicles like publishing, writing and teaching. Your Sun and Moon sign are always in dialogue — the first explains your outer self; the second, your interior.
