Geminis Sweep The Golden Globes
Golden Globes night was Gemini night, with nominees from this sign taking home a slew of statues. Natalie Portman and Annette Bening, both Gems, took the Best Actress category for “The Black Swan” and “The Kids Are All Right.” (“Kids” also won Best Comedy.) Other Gemini winners: Paul Giamatti for Best Performance by an Actor, “The Social Network” writer Aaron Sorkin for Best Screenplay, and Glee’s Chris Colfer as Best Supporting Actor for TV. There were also Gemini nominees aplenty: Angelina Jolie, Helena Bonham Carter, and Johnny Depp for both “Alice in Wonderland” and “The Tourist.”
We hate to say “I told you so” (ah, who are we kidding …we love to), but we called it!
Even movies with Gemini themes seemed favored. Gemini rules technology, the voice and same-sex couples (the Twins), giving a boost to “The Social Network,” “The Kids Are All Right” and “Glee” (which took home three well-deserved Globes).
Naturally, the stars explain all. Jupiter, planet of luck, is in Pisces, which rules Gemini’s 10th house of fame, success, awards and public acclaim. If there was a career-defining year for this sign, 2010 was it. The Moon was also in Gemini that night, amping up the spotlight on the zodiac’s Twins even more. Jupiter has been in Pisces since January 2010, making last year a bull’s-eye professional year for Gemini. (Interestingly, Jupiter dipped out of Pisces into Aries over the summer, when Angelina and Johnny were filming “The Tourist.” Oops! Timing is everything, guys.)
The runner-up sign was Virgo: Colin Firth, Melissa Leo and “The Social Network’s” David Fincher for Best Director. Heavyweight Saturn was in Virgo from September 2007 until July 2010, pushing them to take more mature or challenging roles. With this restrictive monkey off their backs, Virgos who did the tough task of reinventing themselves are now being duly rewarded.
So will the Oscars be as kind to Geminis as the Globes were? Probably not. On January 22, Jupiter leaves Pisces and moves onward into Aries. That’s good news for Cancer nominees, who will have Jupiter in their fame-driven 10th house until June 4. Aries nominees will also be favored. If only Cancerian host Ricky Gervais had signed up for the Oscars instead. He was widely criticized for his below-the-belt jabs at the Globes, skewering celebs for their flopped films or past stints in rehab.
Stay tuned for our astrological analysis of the Oscar outlook, and the new season of “American Idol,” coming up soon!
In the meantime, enjoy today's Cancer full moon, which will make for an interesting day of emotional expression.
