Aquarius New Moon, Year of the Dragon

By admin Thu., Feb. 21, 2013 ,5:30 am EST

Today’s Aquarius new moon is also the Chinese New Year, and it’s a fierce one indeed. For the first time since 2000, we have a Dragon year, which is believed to be a time of alchemy, transformation and deep-seated change. No surprise that the millennium and 2012 have both been marked by something of much legend and importance! The Dragon is the only non-animal in the Chinese zodiac, which imbues it with mythical powers. In the coming 12 months, the Dragon will help us all find our own magic — as well as to reckon with the “beast” or shadow side within us all.

As for the new moon, Aquarius is the sign of groups, humanitarian issues and technology. This lunar starting point invites us to explore: Where in your life can you collaborate, join forces, get involved or make a difference? It’s so easy to think of ourselves as separate, to live life as an island. But in the long run, it serves no good. Finding your place among your fellow human beings, surrendering to oneness — that’s what Aquarius AND 2012 are all about. The first new moon of the year helps us appreciate what we have to offer the collective consciousness, and to make a unique contribution. In the next couple of days, look at ways you can join something, get involved, or team up with people for a cause that’s bigger than yourself.
