Pluto Is Alive and Well in Astrology
by Christopher Renstrom

Named after the Greek god of the underworld, Pluto "rules" over things that are buried beneath the earth's surface, such as gold, precious metals and oil. In Greek mythology, Pluto was the god of the dead. He was the one who decided if your soul went to the Elysian Fields (Heaven) or Tartarus (Hell). Of all the Greek gods, he was the most feared. But there was more to Pluto than that. Pluto also ruled over seeds, which we bury in the ground. Your roots, past and ancestry are all ruled by Pluto. After a plant flowers or blooms, it goes to seed — starting the whole cycle over again. So, Pluto is as much a planet of life as it is a planet of death. That's why it's called the planet of reincarnation, because a seed sprouts, grows, blossoms and dies only to give birth to new seeds that will start the whole process over again.

There's a bit of an edge to Pluto Children, as well. Born at the time of year when the harvest has been gathered and flowers and vegetables are going to seed, Children of Pluto have this pervading feeling that they've somehow missed the boat. In fact, they often feel like they've been gypped or ripped off. The lazy days of summer are over and winter is on its way, so this feeling of being handed the short end of the stick sits in the back of their minds like a low-burning flame. It's why Children of Pluto can be controlling, suspicious and overly sensitive to rejection. Children of Pluto are compulsive — in both love and hate. There's never a middle ground with them, nor do they do things halfway. Just about everything worth wanting in life (like love or money or getting your way) is infused with a life-or-death intensity.
